“In only about eight weeks, iCareiMove has made a significantly positive impact upon my life. I am most grateful.
I am 73. Since 2000, I have had various abdominal operations, suffered two thromboses in my right leg, had sciatica in my left leg and I had a bad fall in January which resulted in my having to have my hip x-rayed. I have had two skin cancers removed from my scalp. Recently, after the sciatica, I found myself falling easily. My daughter saw iCareiMove advertised on-line and I was fortunate enough to be able to join a group.
When I used to get out of bed, I often stumbled. Now, I get out of bed carefully. I use the techniques which iCareiMove has taught us in order to get up safely from a sitting position.”
“Before the class starts we all see each other and chat through our health and wellbeing and then afterwards we all chat about how the class went and agree to do our homework.”
“Then, I am in a balanced standing position to take the next step. At night time, before I switch on the bedroom light, this is essential. Before I joined iCareiMove, I lunged into trying to walk. Now, once standing securely and confidently, I spend time pumping my ankles, ‘The Rule’. Previously, I tried to walk and was unbalanced. Now, I am able to walk without trouble across the landing, into the bathroom or downstairs.
One of the most influential improvements in my life has come from learning how to ‘step wide’. In the past, when I felt unsteady, I had to look quickly for a piece of furniture or another person to grab to retrieve my balance. Now, I simply ‘Step Wide’. It may seem an obvious thing but I hadn’t ever consciously ‘stepped wide’. Because we have been taught to ‘step wide’ sideways and also forward and backward, I have renewed confidence when walking. My wife, family and friends have remarked on how well I now walk compared to before I joined iCareiMove. I used to use a walking stick indoors and outdoors, now I normally walk without one, even outdoors.”

” ‘Stepping high’ as though we were stepping over the cat, has improved my ability to climb steps. Last November, I was taken by ambulance to the Royal Cornwall Hospital for pain relief. The pain from my sciatica had reduced me to near immobility. One night, neighbours had to be brought to help me to get up from the bathroom floor. I can now walk upstairs and down. I have started gardening again. I am visiting museums, art galleries, etc with my wife. iCareiMove is a miracle worker.
I do the iCareiMove exercises during the week but what gives me the greatest happiness is that they are practical and I can see their benefit in my daily life. It is wonderful, for example, to be able to turn again on the spot: 90 degrees, 180 and 360.
Thank you too for improving our understanding of the reasons for the exercises that we do. For instance how exercises to do with strength are beneficial for the health of our bones and for prolonging our ability to grip.
Though one wouldn’t want to fall. I am appreciating the current teaching about how to get up again after a fall. Many years ago, I overheard a retired teacher say that the clue to successful teaching was revision. I think that you have got a brilliant balance between practising skills which you have introduced us to and moving us one to new things.
On behalf of myself and everybody in my life, thank you for all that you have done for me.”
