Move More & Sit Less Exercise Classes for our Older Adults as we come out of lockdown. We know that the people we love have been moving less, and the science tells us that isolation has left more of us de-conditioned and at risk of falling. The great news is that we have a solution to help the generation who have been shielding to become stronger and more steady on their feet. MoveMore is a program designed to prevent falls AND it is free to the people of Cornwall.
A Plea to Cornwall
You must know a person who would benefit from this program! It could be a relative, a neighbour or even yourself. PLEASE, to save lives, just call us at iCareiMove Head office or Age UK and you will be instantly supported.
We are looking for the following:
- Unsteady on your feet
- Walks with an aid such as a stick
- Has previously fallen
- Has lost confidence
- Needs a bit more support at home
- Has home care to assist with balance
- Fears falling or stumbling
Falling can be catastrophic but it doesn’t have to be
Move More was created as a solution to stop people falling. Falls are a massive cost to the economy – £2.4 billion is spent around falls each year. Many falls could have been prevented. With guidance, time and the right support, we can help prevent falls.
Before the pandemic, MoveMore classes were being run by the iCareiMove team throughout Cornwall. They had the support from Community Rehab teams, Public Health and Cornwall Council and AGE UK Cornwall and were collaboratively involved with supporting our ageing communities. MoveMore receive referrals from individuals, families and carers and anyone involved in the frailty and care pathway.
MoveMore went Digital in the Pandemic
During the last year, the Move More program has evolved due to the pandemic and the classes went digital. They continue to run and are filmed from the Chaos TV studios in Truro and played LIVE on social media AND on the digital platform, Zoom. They remain interactive and fun and the feedback is that it is sometimes easier to join in online as you don’t need to travel!
“Educating our older people to use zoom took time and patience. We had to pair everything down until they finally learnt how to log onto zoom and join in the class. It was amazing how people adapted to using technology during the pandemic.”

In some cases, iPads were donated, and volunteers helped to break down the technology barriers to reach more and more who were in isolation. The team at iCareiMove supports and coaches each individual to help them to have a good and positive experience. Exercising is gentle, calm and engaging.
Move More is an evidenced based program. When followed and guided through the movements, it can literally help people to stop falling. Many of the attendees surprise themselves as they go through the gentle guided movements week on week.
We Want You
MoveMore are starting another course and are seeking new people to join the fun, engaging and considered life changing program. It just takes a call to the team to get you going. The MoveMore team will do the rest.
Many consider themselves, too old, or think it is too late to start exercising, but the team will argue that the average age is 83 and the oldest who has recently graduated is 94!

Many thanks for the helpful exercises, they are certainly keeping us more mobile. My husband is 93 ⅓, he tripped down a deep bottom step and was able to get to his feet with the aid of a chair as per your instructions. All I had to do was steady the chair.
Just Get in Touch with the iCareiMove Team and they will do the rest.
The team will ask you a few questions to ensure you are suitable and then guide you on the rest. You may have questions about technology, we can support you on this too. Just get in touch. Age UK 01872 266383 or iCareiMove office 0800 0541 118.
