Service & Strength

Welcome to our Service & Strength Programme, Empowering Women in the Armed Forces to Thrive at Every Stage

Service and Strength

Championing Women’s Wellbeing in Service

Launched in November 2025, the Service and Strength programme is designed to give women in the armed forces a stronger voice and enhance their wellbeing. Focusing on peri- and post-menopause health, it reaches over 1,200 beneficiaries annually through tailored education, guidance, and support. With a comprehensive suite of resources, the programme ensures servicewomen can access vital information and care wherever they are; at home, on deployment, or in remote locations.

Committed To Making An Impact

Why It Matters

Women aged 35–60 serve in military positions while navigating a health transition that is misunderstood, underreported, and largely unsupported in military environments.

What The Data Tells Us

  • 16% of the UK armed forces are women
  • 75% of these women experience 78 menopause-related symptoms severe enough to affect daily function
  • The average duration of peri-menopause transition spans 10 years

Unique Challenges

  • Women on overseas operations or ships often lack access to specialist care, HRT prescriptions, or basic privacy to manage symptoms
  • Heavy combat clothing and body armour amplify hot flushes
  • Military culture discourages vulnerability. Many women hide symptoms to avoid being seen as unfit for duty, delaying diagnosis

Operational Impact

  • Symptoms are frequently mistaken for PTSD or depression, leading to inappropriate treatment and damaged careers.
  • Women leave service years before pension age, taking hard-won experience and clearances with them.
  • Losing experienced women undoes years of diversity investment and thins the senior leadership pipeline.

This award shines a spotlight on the urgent need for tailored health support for women serving our country. By co-designing this programme with servicewomen and leveraging our expertise, we’re creating something that truly works for them.
