Discover how iCareiMove empowers older adults, carers, and health partners through movement-based wellbeing, training, and falls prevention programmes.
Our teams champion accessibility in the movement-based wellbeing sector by breaking down barriers. We are proficient in providing adaptations for individuals with various long-term conditions, injuries or health issues to enable participation at a level that is comfortable for the individual but will still challenge the body enough to make an impact on maintaining independence and improving quality of life.
We extend this accessible approach when working with businesses, healthcare providers, local authorities, and community organisations.
iCareiMove is in the unique position of having both the skillset and experience to not only write but to also deliver training programmes on a wide range of movement-based wellness programmes. This combination generates programmes that have been finely honed through continuous improvement and through working closely with special populations and measuring outcomes, building on latest research and contributing to clinical guidelines.
We are best known for our work supporting older adults to move more and increase their confidence and wellbeing through falls prevention, strength and balance, and other specific movement-based classes for health conditions. By getting to know these clients, we also learned about the needs of those providing support in a wider context such as caregivers, healthcare workers, public health and NHS organisations. With this insight, we then created programmes to support those who are supporting others.
Understanding that anyone working to support others is critically time poor and may experience other barriers, we were at the forefront of switching from analogue to digital, providing choice in how and when our programmes can be accessed. This cascades down to our fitness professionals who are learning different ways of working with older adults which opens up new teaching opportunities for them and broadens the talent pool across the UK.
With an ageing population, we see increasingly more older adults striving to live independently at home. When care becomes involved, either at home or by moving into assisted living or care facilities, the goal of independence doesn’t change.
iCareiMove has created and teaches falls prevention exercise direct to older adults and has a separate programme that educates those in a supporting role to facilitate the movement sessions. By improving strength, balance and mobility in older adults, there is a reduced risk of falls and an increase in overall wellbeing.
Care home staff are particularly at risk of injuries caused by poor manual handling when required to assist residents with tasks such as lifting, transferring, and repositioning, which can lead to injuries if not performed correctly.
The most common types of injuries caused by poor manual handling in care homes and the health and social care sectors are musculoskeletal disorders, which include injuries to the back, neck, shoulders, and upper limbs. These types of injuries can lead to long-term health problems, which can have a significant impact on the quality of life and ability to work of care home staff. Thus, keeping an older adult moving confidently benefits everyone.
Since 2003 we have worked alongside our NHS, Public Health and local councils providing services to support older people with chronic health conditions. It all started with a walking group at The Eden Project with people with COPD. Since then, we have worked with thousands of older people seeking movement and mindfulness to help them live well, move well, and manage their health better.
We are trusted by our public partners as we follow the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines and create innovative programmes based on the latest academic research. Our evidence-based approach of our Move More Falls Prevention programme enables us to collate data to prove the efficacy and cost effectiveness of public health interventions.
Whether it’s an individual regaining confidence, a care provider enhancing support, or a public health initiative creating real change, our mission is the same—helping people move better, feel stronger, and live well.
