Built for men, built around sport

Many men find traditional weight management services hard to engage with. Fit for Life is different. Sessions take place in a relaxed community setting, with the camaraderie, banter and healthy competition of team sport.

Research backs this approach. Studies show that men-only, sport-based programmes can improve both uptake and results. They help men lose weight, build healthier habits and stay engaged for longer.

Local community groups will also provide encouragement and accountability, both in person and online, so you’re never doing it alone.

Who is it for?

Fit for Life is open to adults in Worcestershire with a BMI of 25 or above.

The threshold is lowered to 23 for people of South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean background, as these groups face a higher health risk at a lower BMI.

Why It Matters

Around two in three adults in England are above a healthy weight, and men are more likely to be affected than women. In Worcestershire, around 63% of adults are overweight or living with obesity. Yet only 12% of people using local weight management services are men.

Fit for Life aims to change that. Carrying extra weight raises the risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, certain cancers and musculoskeletal conditions, so small, sustainable changes can make a big difference.
